I’ve been getting a lot of funny looks lately. 

Some side-eyes, a few questioning looks, and even more concerned frowns.

Why?

Because my husband Brad and I are leaving the thriving metropolis (I like that word. It makes it sound like Superman lives here) of Washington, DC for Boise, Idaho.

I’ve spent about 16 hours total in Boise. It seems like a nice place to live.

See! You’re making the same funny face! Which, you do look rather funny while making a face at your computer screen. I sure hope you aren’t in public.

You are probably wondering why we’re leaving our nation’s capitol, the land of free museums and aspiring interns, for a place that you believe mainly consists of potatoes.

I’m going on adventure! Or, in non-Hobbit talk, my husband got a promotion and it includes moving. And, well, we had decided that if a door opened to leave DC, we would take a running start and then make a giant leap into the dark abyss that the door led to. AKA, we’d take the job and leave DC.

We’ve been dreaming for a while about wide open parking spaces, cheaper rent, and, hopefully, a better quality of life.

Am I nervous?

I had to look at a map to figure out where Chicago was located after I got accepted to Northwestern. I lived with complete strangers in NYC. And I slept on the floor when I moved to DC. Moving to Idaho with my husband and cat will be a cakewalk in comparison (HAHA JK STILL NERVOUS).

I don’t know really anything about the Northwest, don’t have a single friend in Boise, & I’ll be jobless starting March.

But life is about exciting, wild opportunities. It’s about taking chances and trying new things, after assessing all the pros and cons. And for right now, life is about figuring out how to transfer our books and furniture roughly 2,000 miles to the Northwest.

I started this blog so you could follow along our wild, crazy journey from one side of the country to the other. There’s still a ways to go before the BIG MOVE (which is to happen sometime around mid-March), but we’ll be doing other exciting things such as marking things off our “DC Bucket List.”
